Both Aston Villa and Leeds United resume their Premier League 2021-22 campaign after the international break, as the latter visit Villa Park this week.
Aston Villa has seen a bit of resurgence in their form since Steven Gerrard took over the reins. The team has picked up three points in its last two games before the break, holding Manchester United to a draw, and beating Everton in their own backyard. As a result, Villa is now in 11th place on the points table, tied at 26 points with Leicester City.
While a European finish looks almost out of reach now, the team can definitely push for a top 10 finish. However, home games remain an area of concern for Gerrard, as Aston Villa has managed to win just twice in the last 7 games at Villa Park. Facing a struggling Leeds provides them a great opportunity to better this statistic.
Just when the fans were hoping that Leeds has turned a new leaf in the season, after back-to-back wins against Burnley and West Ham, the team was served a harsh dose of reality, faltering against Newcastle United at home. Currently, in 15th place with just 22 points of 21 games, Leeds is now facing an uphill task in its next few fixtures, where it will face the likes of Manchester United, Tottenham, Liverpool, and Leicester City.
With the prospects of collecting a point in those games looking bleak, this fixture becomes all the more important for Bielsa.
Match prediction and betting tips for Leeds United F. C. vs Aston Villa F. C. Premier League 2021-22. The match is going to be played at the Villa Park Stadium, Birmingham, on 9th February 2022.
Steven Gerrard will be happy to welcome his African players, Bertrand Traore and Trezeguet, who return from international duties. Calum Chambers, who was acquired from Arsenal during the transfer window, may too get to play in the latter part of the game, as the coach is unlikely to tinker the balance of a winning combination. Marvelous Nakamba remains out of action due to his knee injury.
Leeds gaffer Bielsa will most likely have to contend without the likes of Kalvin Phillips, Liam Cooper, Junior Firpo, and Patrick Bamford, all of whom are injured. The break has given Charlie Creswell, Adam Forshaw, and Jamie Shackleton enough time to recover, and should be available for selection.
We expect this to be a high-scoring game, with both the teams scoring at least once. Given the current form of the hosts, it wouldn’t be surprising if they collect all the three points from this game.
Bet on Aston Villa to win.
We think there is a very good chance that both teams will end up scoring at least one goal in this match. Aston Villa has been excellent at getting goals at home, with one in 15 out of its previous s16 games at Villa Park. Leeds United has also managed to retain its best strikers during the transfer window and could exploit a leaky Villa defense.
