They have however seen a resurgence since coming back, and are now back in the 3rd place, leading 5th placed Real Betis by 6 points.
Sevilla is 2 points ahead of its opponents on Sunday, and would like to hold into the position till the end of the season. Sevilla would have hoped for a better result when they hosted Mallorca earlier this week when they were held to a goalless draw. It was the third consecutive time when Sevilla shared the spoils with their opponents, dashing any chances of overtaking Barcelona to reclaim the second spot.
With two difficult fixtures against Atletico Madrid and the Athletic Club coming up, coach Julen Lopetegui would like to win at least one of them to avoid a last-minute embarrassment, as they are just 5 points ahead of Real Betis at the moment.
