A winless France will travel to Vienna this Friday, as it faces Austria in a quest for its first victory in the ongoing Nations League.
After a tumultuous time in the Premier League as the caretaker coach of Manchester United, Ralf Rangnick made a positive start to his new international stint as the head coach of Austria. They faced Croatia in the first game of the group stages, and netted 3 goals without an answer, giving them an early lead on the points table of Group 1.
However, the celebrations were short-lived, as Das Tram was humbled at home by a terrific Denmark. The visitors lead 1-0 at half-time, but Xaver Schlager brought Austria right back into the game, scoring a fine goal in the 67th minute. However, Jens Stryger Larsen, who came on the field just in the second half, scored a stunner in the 87th minute, to extinguish any hopes of sharing the points. As a result of that loss, Austria is now 2nd on the points table, trailing Denmark by 3 points.
France, ranked third by FIFA in the latest rankings, had a disappointing start to this edition, and is yet to register a win after playing two matches. It lost to an unstoppable Denmark in the first match. It was Karim Benzema who once again opened the scoreboard, scoring minutes after the start of the second half. However, Andreas Cornelius scored a brace, halting a 7-match-winning run for the home team.
The Les Bleus will be even more disappointed with the trip to the Poljud Stadium, where a late penalty conversion by Andrej Kramaric forced them to share points with Croatia. Nevertheless, Didier Deschamps will be hoping to have a better result this time around, as he looks to lift his team up to the second spot.
Match prediction and football betting tips for Austria vs France Nations League 2022. The match is going to be played at the Ernst Happel Stadion, Vienna, on 10th June 2022.
While France has had an admirable record against Austria, the last time both the teams faced each other was in 2009, and the latter is a much-changed team since then.
For the home team, fans will be happy to note that David Alaba has no fitness concerns and is expected to play the full 90 minutes. However, Phillip Lienhart, who missed the first two matches, is expected to miss out here too, due to an illness. Rangnick is expected to go with a 3-4-1-2 formation for this game.
As for the visitors, Ibrahima Konate is expected to make his international seniors debut, as he fills in for Raphael Varane, who has withdrawn due to a hamstring injury. N’Golo Kante makes a return along with Hugo Lloris and Lucas Hernandez. Benzema and Griezmann are expected to start the game.
Despite a torrid start to the tournament, we expect the visitors to score their first win here.
Bet on France to win.
3 of the last 4 head to head matches have produced goals at both ends. Similarly, 3 of the last 4 games for France, and 5 of the last 6 games for Austria too have seen both the teams score. The stats certainly suggest that both teams could get on the scoresheet once more.
3 of the last 4 matches between both the teams have seen 4 goals scored in them. France has scored an aggregate of 24 goals in its last 7 games, while Austria has scored in its last 4 home games, which makes us reckon another high-scoring game this week.
