As they look to confirm their berth in the next year’s Champions League, Bayer Leverkusen will travel to Sinsheim this weekend, to take on the hosts Hoffenheim in their penultimate game of the Bundesliga 2021-22 season.
Hoffenheim had an impressive start to the season and was within the top 4 of the points table up until two months ago. But a slump in form since the last few weeks has dropped them down to the 8th spot. 6 points behind the 6th placed Cologne, Hoffenheim's Continental dreams are all but over, as 7th placed Union Berlin has a much better chance of capitalizing on any slump in form of the Billy Goats.
Hoffenheim has picked up just 3 points from a maximum possible of 21 in the last 7 games, and last tasted a victory in a high-scoring match against Cologne back in March. Hoffenheim comes into this game on the back of a disappointing 3-4 defeat at the hands of Freiburg last weekend. However, most football betting sites are predicting that the team will bounce back, and put up a good fight this Sunday.
Leverkusen on the other hand will be high on confidence when they take on the field, as they travel on the back of 2 consecutive wins. The first of those victories came against bottom-placed Furth, while the second one came earlier this week, when they beat the now Europa League finalists Eintracht Frankfurt comfortably by a 2-0 margin, thanks to goals by Paulinho and Patrik Schick. While those wins have taken Leverkusen to the third spot and ensured that it will be playing in European competition next year, they need one more victory to confirm a place in next year’s Champions League, as 5th placed Leipzig is just 4 points behind.
Match prediction and football betting tips for TSG Hoffenheim vs Bayer Leverkusen Bundesliga 2021-22. The match is going to be played at the Rhein Neckar Arena, Sinsheim, on 7th May 2022.
While Hoffenheim has nothing much to play for, Leverkusen will be looking to collect maximum points from this game, as they are scheduled to play against Freiburg in their last fixture of the season, and a much stronger opponent compared to Hoffenheim.
Hoffenheim coach Hoeness will also have to deal with a depleted squad, as a number of his players are likely to be unavailable due to fitness issues. These include Benjamin Hubner, Chris Richards, Havard Nordtveit, and Ermin Bicakcic. Midfielders Dennis Geiger, Marco John, and Florian Grillitsch too are expected to miss this game. However, one silver lining would be the return of Stefan Posch.
Leverkusen too might be without a few big names, as Amine Adli and Florian Wirtz are ruled out for the rest of the season. Zidan Sertdemir, Karim Bellarabi, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Jeremie Frimpong, and Kerem Demirbay are some other names that are likely to miss the bus. Sardar Azmoun is likely to make a comeback in this match and will be seen assisting Schick in the front.
Given the dreadful form of the hosts, the visitors should have no problems in picking up 3 points from this game.
Bet on Bayer Leverkusen to win.
Total Goals Over/Under
Over 2.5 @ 1.44
7 of the last 9 games between the two clubs have seen a total score of more than 2.5 at full time. 5 of the last 6 games for Hoffenheim too have been high-scoring ones, adding weight to our recommendation.
Goalscorer (Anytime)
Patrik Schick @ 1.90
Schick has 22 goals to his name this season and is second on the top scorer's list. He has scored in each of the last 2 games and played an instrumental role in getting Leverkusen to the top 4. With Haaland close on his heels, Patrik would like to create some distance from the Norwegian and will be looking to score at least once this weekend.
