RB Leipzig will kick off its Bundesliga 2022-23 campaign with a visit to Stuttgart this weekend.
The reigning DFB Pokal Champions had a fruitful season last time around. The club made it to the semi-finals of the Europa League for the first time in its history and finished within the top 4 of the Bundesliga table for the 4th consecutive season. The icing on the cake came in the form of its first-ever DFB Pokal cup when it defeated Eintracht Frankfurt in a closely fought encounter.
Domenico Tedesco will be playing his first full season as the head coach of Leipzig and has made some significant changes in his squad. Two center-forwards, Hee-Chan Hwang and Brian Bobby have left the team, and so have Tyler Adams, Nordi Mukiele, and Ademola Lookman. However, the rear third will be significantly strengthened with the arrival of David Raum from Hoffenheim, and Xaver Schlager from Wolfsburg.
The fans will however be a bit disappointed with the recent performances of their club, as they lost a pre-season friendly against Liverpool, and more recently, lost to Bayern Munich in the DFL Supercup. While Halstenberg, Nkunku, and Olmo scored a goal each for the hosts, Bayern scored 5 thumping goals to claim its 10th Supercup title.
Stuttgart narrowly avoided falling into the relegation zone in the last season, finishing 15th despite having the same number of points as Hertha, who had a poorer goal difference. With that finish, Stuttgart will be playing its 3rd consecutive season in the top flight. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo will be hoping that his team tries to break into the top half of the table this time around.
While the midfield has been a bit weakened with the departure of Orel Mangala, Matarazzo has brought in some fresh firepower to strengthen his rearguard. Josha Vognoman and Konstantinos Mavropanos will be seen in the rear third of the field, while Luca Pfeiffer and Juan Jose Perea will be seen in attacking positions. Stuttgart has shown some good form in the pre-season friendlies, beating the likes of Brentford and Valencia, and also advanced in the second round of the DFB Pokal, beating Dynamo 1-0 last week. Darko Churlinov scored the lone goal of the match.
Match prediction and football betting tips for VfB Stuttgart vs RB Leipzig Bundesliga 2022-23. The match is going to be played at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, Stuttgart, on 7th August 2022.
The hosts are expected to start with a 4-3-3 formation. But Matarazzo will be unable to call upon the services of Alou Koul, who will be serving a suspension, and Borna Sosa, who is out due to an injury. Tanguy Coulibaly, Atakan Karazor, Nikolas Nartey, and Sasa Kalajdzic remain doubtful.
For the visitors, Tedesco has a fully fit squad at his disposal. Yussuf Poulsen is suffering from a niggle, and his fitness report is awaited. Leipzig is expected to start with a 3-4-3 combination
We expect the visitors to start their campaign on a winning note this Sunday.
Bet on a RB Leipzig win.
As mentioned earlier, Stuttgart has managed to score just once in the last 8 matches against Leipzig. The Reb Bulls have kept a clean sheet in the last 4 matches against Stuttgart, and we expect them to continue doing the same.
Just 2 of the last 8 encounters between the two clubs have seen 3 or more goals scored in them. We are therefore expecting a low-scoring match this Sunday too.
