With a slim chance of finishing on top, Dortmund would still like to extend its 5 point lead over third-placed Freiburg by picking up three points.
Eintracht Frankfurt, which is at 6th place with 27 points, has a lot more at stake in this game. A draw will provide a one-point separation from 7th placed Union Berlin, which also has 27 points, while a victory will catapult it directly to the 3rd spot, ahead of Freiburg.
Under the new coach Marco Rose, Dortmund had a great start to the season, winning 8 out of the first 10 games it played, but seem to have lost its way going into the break, and has won just 1 out of its last 4. On the other hand, Frankfurt has picked up pace after a mediocre start. The team has won 6 out of the last 7 fixtures before the break.

Dortmund ended the first half after a 2-3 loss against Hertha and will be looking to make a winning start to the second half if they want to have any hope of catching up with Bayern Munich.
