Nevertheless, Barcelona is second on the points table, with a real chance of overtaking Real Madrid this weekend.
At the other end of the spectrum is Elche, who is yet to register a win this season. Playing its third consecutive season in the top flight, Elche started off with a loss against Real Betis but managed to get a point against Almeria in the very next match. The club has however suffered 3 consecutive losses since then, the most recent of which came last week against Athletic Club. The hosts were trailing by 4 goals at half-time, and a goal by Ponce in the 59th minute wasn’t enough to make any impact on Athletic. Elche, with its solitary point, is 19th on the points table, and there is likely to be some panic within the camp as it heads into the international break.
