Coach Marco Rose stepped down at the end of the season, and the management has brought in Edin Terzic as his replacement.

Terzic has been busy before the start of the season, bringing in some new talent in the form of Sebastien Haller, Niklas Sule, Karim Adeyemi, and Nico Schlotterbeck.
Salih Ozcan has also been signed to strengthen the midfield. Dortmund fans will however be pretty disappointed with the departure of their star striker, Erling Haaland, who was the top scorer for Dortmund in the previous season, as well as Steffen Tigges. Only time will tell if the new players are capable of filling the void left by these players. Dortmund made a winning start to its DFB campaign, beating 1860 Munich 3-0 in the first round. In stark contrast to Dortmund, Leverkusen has had a quiet pre-season, with Adam Hlozek being the only new signing so far. He has replaced Lucas Alario, who made a move to Frankfurt. Leverkusen was defeated 4-3 by the third division team SC Elversberg, which saw them getting knocked out of the competition. All hopes now rest on the shoulders of Patrick Schick, who was the second highest scorer last year in the Bundesliga. Schick has extended his contract by another 5 years and will play an instrumental role if Leverkusen were to finish in the top 4 again.
