While Marco Rose’s boys have played some great football this season, the occasional draws and losses have meant that they now trail the leaders Bayern Munich by 6 points. Dortmund now has 43 points from 20 games, and can only pray and play catch-up with the table toppers. Dortmund has been on a winning streak ever since coming back from the winter break, having scored 3 victories, including a great comeback against Frankfurt, and a thumping win against Freiburg.
The Bavarians on the other hand, are all but out of the title race, and currently sit on the third spot, with 35 points. While the 14 point deficit to Bayern Munich is almost impossible to cover, the Die Werkself will be looking to pick up 3 points from this game, in order to cement its place within the top 4. It leads the 5th placed Freiburg by just 2 points, and any slip-ups can see them lose the automatic qualification to the Champion’s League. The team has hit a rough patch since the beginning of December and has picked up just 8 points from the last 6 games. They will however be feeling pretty confident, having won its last two fixtures, including a 5-1 drubbing of Augsburg.

Marco Rose has been heavily reliant on Erling Haaland to score for his team throughout the season. Haaland, with 16 goals is currently third on the list of top scorers this season. He is, however, set to miss this important game due to a groin injury. In his absence, Donyell Malen and Marco Reus may share the burden inside the penalty box. Mateu Morey, Marcel Schmelzer, and Emre Can too most likely be unavailable, along with goalkeepers Unbehaun and Roman Burki.
For the visitors, Andrei Lunev, Julian Baumgartlinger, Paulinho, and Sinkgraven are doubtful, which will provide Piero Hincapie and Kerem Demirbay to start the game.
With both the teams focussing on offense rather than defense, we expect this one to be a high-scoring encounter, with both the teams finding the back of the net. However, playing with the home advantage, Dortmund might get better of the visitors in the end.
