Atletico Madrid resumes their La Liga campaign by visiting Barcelona, to take on the hosts in match week 23 of the ongoing season.
This is one of the most awaited clashes for the season, as incumbent Champions will take on the heavyweights Barcelona, who have won the trophy 5 times in the past decade. Playing its first season without the talismanic Lionel Messi, Barca has struggled to say the least this season and currently is 5th on the points table, with just 35 points from the 21 games it has played. With the top spot 15 points away, a championship victory looks out of the question for them at this stage. They can however make it into the top 4 by winning this game, as their opponent, Atletico Madrid, sits on the 4th spot just 1 point ahead. Barcelona is unbeaten in its last 6 La Liga outings and will be looking to extend the unbeaten streak.
After a solid start to the season, Atletico faltered midway, losing all the 4 games it played in the month of December. While the team is unbeaten in the 3 La Liga games it has played so far in the new year, it has crashed out of the Supercopa de Espana and Copa del Rey, losing to Athletic Club and Real Sociedad. Diego Simeone will have to do a lot of work on his team if they would like to finish in the top 4.
Match prediction and betting tips for Atletico Madrid vs FC Barcelona La Liga 2021-22. The match is going to be played at Camp Nou, Barcelona, on 6th February 2022.
The hosts will new missing out on several of its key players, including Ansu Fati, Clement Lenglet, Sergi Roberto, Samuel Umtiti, Alejandro Balde, and Eric Garcia due to fitness issues. Xavi is expected to start with Luuk de Jong, Gavi, and Dani Alves. Gerard Pique and Ronald Araujo too are expected to start the game with defense duties.
Atletico Madrid is likely to miss out on Marcos Llorente, Antoine Griezmann, and Geoffrey Kondogbia due to injuries, making way for the debutant Daniel Wass as well as Jose Gimenez and Stefan Savic. Simone is likely to place a 4-2-2-2 formation for this game.
Given the past track record and on paper strength of both the teams, this is an extremely tough game to call. We however expect both the teams to score by the time the final whistle blows.
Bet on a draw.
