Coach Marco Rose found himself sacked and has now been replaced by Edin Terzic, who has been involved with the club in various capacities since 2018. Under the new regime, Dortmund has won both its opening matches, defeating Leverkusen 1-0 in the opener, and more recently, thrashing Freiburg 3-1 in its own backyard.
There was much skepticism as to how the team will perform after the departure of its star striker, Erling Haaland. However, the new signings seem to have gelled nicely, with the young teenager Bynoe-Gittens, who was promoted from the U-19 team, scoring a goal last week. As a result of those two wins, Dortmund once again finds itself in the second spot, trailing Bayern Munich due to a less favorable goal difference.
Werder Bremen, who are back in the top flight after spending a year in 2. Bundesliga will be pretty satisfied with its performances in the two games that it has played thus far. For its opening game, Werder traveled to Wolfsburg and held them to a 2-2 draw. For its second match, Werder hosted Stuttgart, and again finished at 2-2, thanks to a late equalizer by Oliver Burke during the stoppage time. Coach Ole Werner, who is playing his first full season with The Green-Whites, is facing his first real challenge against a top German club and will be keen to eke out at least 1 point from this match.
